Improving Smiles in Calgary & Surrounding Areas of Alberta

Tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is a condition in which the tongue’s tip is tethered to the floor of the mouth. Depending on the severity, some tongue ties may require attention from a practitioner, while others may not. A tongue tie can extend partially or completely to the tip, and in some cases, it can be hidden under the tongue lining, known as posterior tongue tie.

Individuals with a tongue tie may face various challenges, including speech issues, incorrect swallowing patterns leading to malocclusion, jaw pain, TMJ and chronic head and neck pain, crowded teeth, inferior prognathism, postural problems due to a short lingual fraenum, inflamed gums, an increased need for fillings and extractions, and sensitivity about their appearance. Elderly patients with tongue ties may also experience difficulty keeping dentures in place.

Fortunately, it’s never too late to have a tongue-tie released, and the benefits can be life-changing for some individuals.
